This is a painting I started on location last spring. Being fortunate to live next door I was able to return to the site several times to work from life, later finishing in studio from photographic reference. I was positioned on top of a hill with an incredible view of the valley below where there is a tiny curch surrounded by high cypresses, olive groves and umbrella pines, with hilly vineyards receding towards the distant Apennine mountains.
