I painted this plein air of a section in my garden. I took my time to decide how to paint it, as it was a long thin space, but by introducing the curves of the wall behind and the horizontal shapes of the shadows of the plant, I felt I came up with a solution. I did a thumbnail sketch to try if it would work and then finished the painting while I had the sun with the shadows in the correct spot.
