Windswept
Rising from an empty, yet vastly rich landscape deep in the Arabian Desert, is a towering rock arch made of sandstone, quartz, and time. The mood was surreal and one of peace as I explored this intricate work of art, with its cracks and grooves carved out by years of wind and water. The late afternoon sun lit up layer upon layer of color and it was then that I knew I needed to capture this scene.
Watercolors in hand, in a makeshift studio, I immersed myself in the memory and the feel of that day and went to work. I carefully studied every minute detail using photographs I had taken at different angles, lighting, and settings, to bring the rocks, crevices, and sand, coupled with the blazing, late afternoon sun, shadows, and reflective light, to life.
