Creek in the Night
Oil on Linen, Plein Air & Studio
In the beautiful book “The Shape of Things”, Florence Jaques, wife of Artist Francis Lee Jacques, shares how she “hadn’t thought of a cut river bank as interesting or beautiful, until Lee made me recognize and admire them, whether they were small ones along a pasture stream or the great massive ones we saw on our trips…” It lifts my heart to read it, to hear his wife share it, and I’ve thought of it nearly every time I see one. This humble cut-bank pasture winds its way through a valley, made by its own persistence. Here the autumn current ebbs a bit where the spring flows have carved out a place to hold the twilight sky.
