In Dappled Light
I painted this piece during a springtime visit to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens with the Virginia Plein Air Painters (VPAP) Group. I really love the all of the flowering trees that bloom this time of year and try to capture them every chance I get. This view is part of the Cherry Tree Walk at the botanical gardens. I was attracted to the way the canopy of cherry blossoms provided a soft circular framing for the little bench. And while the foreground was very much the main attraction, I liked the zig zag pattern of the light on pathway and bridge that drew me back into the distance and invited the eye to wander through the scenery.
