I've painted many studies from life of my husband Shane through the years, but none with the honesty of this recent portrait, painted alla prima on the anniversary of losing a son to cancer. Along our 50 year journey, we've shared exhilarating joys and heartbreaking sorrows. I now paint stories into the gently lined face of this quiet man.
