Burney Falls

This is an acrylic painting on canvas. After hiking to this magnificent waterfall and sitting in awe and wonder on a wet rock covered in the mist of cascading water, I challenged myself to painting it as true-to-life as possible, as a way of honoring this beautiful place in Northern California. I took photographs to reference for the intricate details of how water falls over textured rocks and moss. Each aspect required different brushstrokes to accomplish the effects of movement whether falling in torrents, delicately trickling, or spraying in sheets.
