Mare Mosso

Mare Mosso, Water
Mare Mosso
Growing up, I spent every other summer in Tuscany, since my maternal grandmother had a summer home there in a small resort called Castiglioncello. It is renowned as a place much frequented by the Italian school of impressionist painters known as the Macchiaioli.
Across the small bay is the larger town of Rosignano Solvay, which is the cityscape seen in the distance.
A stormy sea (mare mosso) was typically the result of a libeccio – the wind blowing from the south-west. I always loved the drama and colors of the stormy seas, highlighted by the angry clouds.
